GENERAL STATEMENT
Though I’ve divided the collection into three series done as a group, at a certain time, they could be organized into other groupings according to the wishes of the exhibit organizers.
ANACONDA ( smoke from stack )
This series of work is my Master thesis exhibit, first exhibited at the Northern Illinois University Gallery in DeKalb, Illinois,1973. The second exhibit of these Anaconda inspired prints was exhibited at Copper Village in Anaconda. The stack was belching out smoke when I came to Anaconda in 1969 and when I left for art study in Florence, Italy in 1979. When I returned to Anaconda in 1985, there was no smoke coming from the stack.
ANACONDA RECLAIMED (no smoke from stack )
This series of etching/collages depict the reality of the major changes that took place during the years that I was living in Italy. These post Italy years ( 85-88 ) make use of bits and pieces from the Anaconda and Italian prints to create decorative collages. This merging of Florence and Anaconda show this new reality, using titles such as: We can make it, Well folks, and this is the last stop,
III MONTANA MILES
This period reflects the years ( 1974 -1979 ) that I was visiting small towns in Montana for the Montana Arts Council These prints and collages use the windshield of the car as the basic composition, with the sideview mirror always showing the stack and the windshield focusing on what is ahead. The smokestack in the sideview mirror always reminded me where I started from, Anaconda. The total series pulls together all the towns, landscape and cultural life of Montana.
